Mikus Losans visited Waffle Wednesday on 1.2. to talk about artificial intelligence and the use of no-code platforms. Instead of traditional lectures and slide shows, Losans demonstrated with examples how no-code tools work in practice. No-code is a very relevant topic as AI is evolving at a fast pace and the use of no-code tools is growing rapidly.
Losans has been an entrepreneur since 2008. He has been involved in several business accelerator and business incubator programmes and several start-ups. Losans is one of the founders of the No-code miniAccelerator, a beginner-friendly mentoring programme that allows anyone to create modern websites and apps with no coding skills required.
“We found out that while business incubators and business accelerators have a broad range of general knowledge about business and marketing, there is a need for really specific, field-specific knowledge when setting up startups for example. We set up miniAccelator to meet this need,” says Losans.
What is no-code?
No-code allows you to build software, websites and other digital products without having actual programming skills. Thanks to no-code tools, for example, building software is fast, user-friendly and cost-effective. Losans describes no-code tools as revolutionary:
“No-code tools are revolutionizing the way people build software and making application development accessible to everyone.”
Common no-code tools are Softr and Bubble for building applications and Carrd, Wix and Webflow for building websites. Airtable and Make are common workflow automation tools used to automate business processes. Other well-known no-code tools include Notion and OpenAI. The price range varies from free to a few dozen euros per month depending on the tool. However, most of the tools are easily available.
How hard is it to use no-code without prior skills?
Losans demonstrated the easiness and simplicity of using no-code programs by demonstrating how to use them in practice with two examples. In the first example, he built a jewellery store in only about seven minutes by using Excel and the no-code tool Glide. In this example, a jewellery store was created using only two programs and it didn’t require any coding experience.
In the next example, Losans created an online app for food recipes without pre-defined recipes, using OpenAI‘s ChatGPT feature to collect recipes and Midjourney to create photos. Finally, the data was again transferred to the no-code tool Glide to create a web app in just a few simple steps.
Excel & Google Sheet – Spreadsheet software that makes it easy to collect, visualise and analyse data.
Glide – Converts spreadsheets into applications quickly and easily.
ChatGPT – AI chatbot auto-generative system created by Open AI for online customer care.
Midjourney – Creates pictures with AI.
Thanks to artificial intelligence, you really don’t need to know much about coding to create apps; you just need to know how to use no-code programs.
Will AI build businesses in the future?
“Artificial intelligence and no-code tools are changing the way people build websites and applications, and the way business ideas are implemented in general. If you have this knowledge, you can build almost anything,” says Losans.
However, the potential downsides of AI and no-code software must be kept in mind: making things too easy and too simple in terms of AI can lead to impersonal standard solutions and, over time, to a general decline in people’s creative problem-solving skills.
